Special Easter Services

The following area churches have submitted service information for special services being conducted at their churches during Holy Week.

Broken Bow First Baptist Church: Easter Sunday - 8 a.m. Early Easter Worship, 8:30 a.m. breakfast; 9:30: Bible School for all ages, 10:45: We Worship!

Miller Christian Church: Easter Sunrise Service, will leave the church to go to the cross at 6:45 a.m. A carry-in breakfast will follow the service, with church service at 8:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Loup 2 Loup road race gives back

On August 8, 2013 the 2nd annual Loup 2 Loup (L2L) Open Road Race asked its surrounding communities to help with the race that runs the 12 miles between Halsey and Purdum and back again. Just like the year before they came forward to help in so many ways. Some gave their time selling T-shirts and cooking breakfast while others sat along the course and kept watch on the road to keep the drivers safe.

Lightford sentenced to prison

April 17, 2014

Christopher M. Lightford, 23, was sentenced in Custer County District Court Thursday, April 17, and this time Judge Karin Noakes did not go easy on him.
Lightford was found guilty of one count of theft by taking, and was on probation for the same charge at the time of his arrest. In August 2013, he was ordered to serve 1 year supervised probation and make restitution of $2,680. However, just a year later he was back in jail for the same offense.

Randall Hanson, 51

April 17, 2014

Randall L. Hanson, age 51 of Callaway, passed away Tuesday, April, 8 2014, at the Callaway District Hospital.

Leroy Giddings, 65

April 17, 2014

Leroy R. Giddings, age 65, of Broken Bow died Wednesday April 9, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.
Funeral Services were Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastor Mel Shepherd officiating. Burial was at Lee Park Cemetery with Military rites. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.

Loyd Pracht, 82

Loyd Oliver Pracht was born Dec. 8, 1931, to Oliver and Alma Pracht of Berwyn. Loyd passed into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father April 10, 2014, at the age of 82.
Loyd received Christ as his Savior early in his life. He recommitted his faith and life to the Lord, after his father's (Oliver Pracht) death. He honored the Lord by showing Christ's love and teaching his children to share the love of Christ by what he did for those around him. Loyd was a man who dearly loved his family, and enjoyed his grandchildren, as well as his great grandchildren.

Hildegard Lindner, 86

Hildegard Lindner of Lincoln, formerly of Merna, passed away March 31, 2014, at the Tabitha Care Home in Lincoln. She was the youngest of nine children born to Anton and Franziska (Otradovsky) Hejl in Bremen, Germany. She was born at home Jan. 23, 1928, and resided in Germany until June 1951, when she set sail for the United States.

Harold Jacobsen, 75

April 17, 2014

Harold Jacobsen died March 31, 2014, at Emeritus Memory Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Harold, the youngest of six children, was born at home in the Eureka Valley Community May 20, 1938, to John H. and Gladys (Johnson) Jacobsen. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Lower Powell Canyon, and subsequently in 1940, to a farm in the Gates Community. Following grade school there, he graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1957. After spending a few months at farm work, he entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Security/Military Police in Korea.

Alice McMurtrey, 61

Alice Elizabeth McMurtrey was born in Omaho, to Dr. George McMurtrey and Margaret Alice (Owen) McMurtrey March 1, 1953. She departed this life April 5 , 2014, at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 4 days, with interment at Kilgore Cemetery in Kilgore.
As a youngster, Alice loved to visit her grandparents, "Hub" ond "G. G." at the McMurtrey ranch
and spent quality time there, where she was known to be an "adventurous little imp," earning this reputation by, at the age of 3 or 4, walking behind the weaned colts that were tied up in
