Statistics - - 2012 Police Calls

Broken Bow Police Officers answered 2,496 calls in 2012.
The numbers are up, said Police Chief Steve Scott, a lot more time is spent on controlled substance abuse cases and reports of child abuse.
The alertness and the quality of training for the officers contributes to the numbers, Scott added.

New BBPS principal hired

The Broken Bow School Board and administration met in a special meeting Saturday, Jan. 12, for the purpose of interviewing four candidates to fill the high school/middle school principal position vacated by the retirement of Ken Kujath.
As the Chief prepared to go to press it was announced that a contract has been offered and accepted. BBPS Superintendent Mark Sievering issued this statement:

Kelley Lehmer & Ryan Bristol

Rick and Lisa Bristol of Ansley, are happy to announce the engagement of their son, Ryan Bristol, to Kelley Lehmer, daughter of Becky Lehmer of Aurora. The two met while both were attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Ryan, a 2010 graduate of Amherst High School, currently attends UNK studying Agri-Business. Kelley, a 2007 graduate of Aurora High School and a 2011 graduate from UNK, currently works in Kearney, at Region 3 Behavioral Health Services using her bachelor's degree in Family Studies.
The couple is planning a June 1, 2013 wedding in Aurora.

Mr. & Mrs. Austin Hendrickson

Heather Proskocil of Kearney and Austin Hendrickson of Kearney were married Oct. 20, 2012, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Parents of the couple are Dave and Tammy Hendrickson of Broken Bow, and Don and Deb Proskocil of Ord
The bride and groom reside in Kearney. They both work and attend school full time. They will both graduate in May 2013 from University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Michael Diefenbaugh, 67

Michael Dee Diefenbaugh, 67 of Merna passed away at his home Jan. 9, 2013.
Mike was born Oct. 15, 1945 in Dunning, to Junior and Willda (Crone) Diefenbaugh. He was raised in Merna and graduated from Merna High School in 1963. He was baptized in the Christian Church of Litchfield.
June 28, 1966, he married Judith Yantzie in Broken Bow. They lived in Merna for 46 years, where they raised four children: Misti, Michelle, Kristi and Kyle.

W. Jane Gottschalk, 95

W. Jane Gottschalk was born Aug. 17, 1917, to Joseph T. and Edith M. Hendrickson in Thayer County. She attended country school thru 8th grade, then attended Belvidere High School.
Following graduation, Jane taught country school.While teaching, she met Kenneth C. Gottschalk. They were married May 29, 1937.

Dean Shadel, 91, of Callaway, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Callaway Good Life Center.

Laurin Winkelhake, 75

January 18, 2013

Laurin A. Winkelhake, age 75, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, at his home in Syracuse. A funeral for Laurin Winkelhake was Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, with burial following at the St. Paul Cemetery near Talmage.
He is survived by his brother Roger and wife Iris (Lyons) Winkelhake of Lincoln; three cousins, Virginia Heinke of Lincoln, Shirley Nowack of Higginsville, Mo. and Alvin Winkelhake of Palm Springs, Calif.; also by extended Lyons family, and friends.
Hall Funeral Chapel of Auburn was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Ferguson, 86

Ralph Ferguson, age 86, of Miller, formerly of Ansley, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Ansley, with the Rev. Mel Shepherd officiating. Burial was in the Ansley Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are to the Kidney Foundation. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.

George Munn, 79

George Edward Munn, 79 of Lincoln, died Jan. 14, 2013, after he lost his battle to lung cancer. George was born April 15, 1933, in Mason City, to George Emerson Munn and Flora Cecil Spencer.
During January 1953, George enlisted in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. He served 10 1/2 years as an Air Force aircraft mechanic. During one of his overseas tours at the Panama Canal Zone, he met his beautiful Panama born wife, Louise Gloria Grote. Together they had four children: George Jr, Mary, Fritz and David.
