Dorothy Eleanor Hinze of Lincoln was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Stamford, to Clarence and Mary Lehman White. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. She graduated from Stamford High School where she was active in sports and was a cheerleader. After high school Dorothy went on to be a cosmetologist.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Darrell E. Hinze. This marriage lasted 52 years until Darrell's death in 1997. Three children were born of this union: Nancy, Terry and Judy.
Harold LeRoy Young was born March 9, 1927, at Gates, and departed this life Feb. 19, 2013, at the Highland Health Care Center, Bella Vista, Ark., at the age of 85 years.
After graduating from Callaway High School in 1945, LeRoy was drafted into the Army. Upon discharge the GI Bill of Rights offered the opportunity to learn a trade, so LeRoy became a butter-maker and worked at the Callaway Co-op Creamery for 25 years, later becoming manager. He won third place in a butter-tasting competition at the state milk and cream convention in Lincoln.
The angels came for Dollie Garris, 91 of Broken Bow, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. She is formerly of Sargent
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Chaplain Steve Shanno officiating. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Sargent, with Pastor Marvin Bauer officiating.
Dollie was born April 30, 1921, northeast of Broken Bow to Thomas and Nettie Grim. She graduated from Wester-ville school in 1939, in the biggest class of 10 students.
Leona Marie McAlevy, 79 of Merna, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Jennie Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow. A celebration of life was Feb. 14, 2013 at The Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna with Pastor Ryan Loeslie officiating. Burial was in the Merna Cemetery.
Leona was born at Brady June 27, 1933, to John Walter and Lily Fran (Dovenbarger) Parkhurst. She attended school thru the 8th grade, and married Luther Dale McAlevy in Mason City at her parents house June ll, 1950.

Sterling James Atkins was born on a snowy day - April 11, 1994, in Kearney, to J.B. and Sonya Atkins. His life of fun loving mischief had begun. If Sterling had been born a horse, then he would have tested the electric fence daily just to see if it was still hot.
Sterling and his parents moved to Broken Bow in 1997, where he attended school and graduated in 2012. He was joined by a sister, Jayde, in 1998. Sterling enjoyed many local activities including 4-H and baseball, but may be more known for his âdeer tackling incidentâ at the ball diamond than for his prowess at the plate.
July 2, 1962, Rex Allen Baillie bounded into the arms of Lana and Lowell Baillie. He was greeted by his older brother, Ron, who became his protector, and his younger brother, Rod, who likely stood back and wondered what kind of brothers he had.
Rex grew up with an extended family that knew the value of children. This family value was carried through to Rexâs own family. He loved his children and was devoted to them in every sense of the word.
Glen Govier, age 89, of Broken Bow, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 16, at Govier Brothers. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Jan Dobesh officiating. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials have been established to the Shinersâ Childrenâs Hospital or the Custer County Foundation.
Elwood Goodwin went to be with the Lord Feb. 13, 2013. Elwood made Jesus the Lord of his life at the age of 12.
He was born in Bassett, into the home of Lloyd and Myrtle Goodwin, growing up with six brothers and sisters. Elwood graduated from Bassett High School and shortly thereafter served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant after serving two years.
In 1946, he married Carol King (deceased). They had two children, Bernard and Barbara.
Sharon Hershman, 73, of Parkston, SD and Broken Bow, passed away Feb. 16, 2013, at Jennie Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow.
Sharon was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Parkston, SD, to John and Frances Fergen. She was a graduate of Klamath Falls High School in Oregon. She was married to the late Paul D. Hershman in Mitchell, SD and lived in Mitchell, SD, Norfolk, and Parkston, SD before her last move to Broken Bow in August 2012.
Doris H. (Helen) Bayne, age 87, passed away at her home in Broken Bow Feb. 15, 2013 with family at her bedside.
Doris was born to Harry and Eva (Towers) Cohn in their home south of Maxwell Nov. 28, 1925. After getting most of her school education in the Maxwell area schools she moved to North Platte for her senior year and graduated from North Platte High School in 1943. She worked at W. J. O'Connor Dime store until she married Harold Bayne.
Shortly after marrying they moved to Hazard, the first of several moves to various towns in Nebraska before finally settling in Broken Bow.
