Goldie Shepherd, 98

February 16, 2012

Goldie Shepherd, age 98, of Grand Island, formerly of Ansley, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Wedgewood Hospice Center in Grand Island.
Goldie was born March 26, 1913, near Arcadia. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel D. and Rhoda R. (Henry) Hurlbert.

Marie Allen, 87

Marie M. Allen, age 87, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 9, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Mason City, to Harry and Elva Tracy Holm. Marie graduated from Bridgeport High School.
After graduation she taught school in rural western Nebraska. She married James McVay in 1943. Marie traveled extensively with her husband who was in the Army Air Corps. Their travels included Alaska. To this union three children were born; James, Sue and John.

Norma Staab, 88

Norma M. Staab, 88 of Grand Island, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Tiffany Square Center. Services were Monday, Feb. 13, in the chapel of Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Gary Schulte officiating.
To honor Mrs. Staab's request, cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes was at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mrs. Staab was born Sept. 27, 1923, at Mason City, the daughter of Charles and Petra (Lauridsen) Mohr.
Her husband, Glenn Staab, preceded her in death in 2004.

Marjory Myers, 95

Marjory Myers was in Hospice care at the Homestead CAre Facility in Lincoln, and left this world Feb. 7, 2012.
Marjory Ruth Clay Myers was born July 11, 1916, in the family sod house at the farm four miles west of Broken Bow. She was the 11th of 12 children born to J. William clay and Minnie Amsberry.
She attended grade school at the Crackerjack School through the eighth grade and then rode with her brothers to the Broken Bow High School. Some of her brothers played football for Broken Bow, and Marjory participated in some of the girl’s after school athletics while waiting for them.

Eldon Howard, 76

Eldon H. Howard, 76, of Grand Island, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Reverend Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Anna Belle Zoerb, 87

February 8, 2012

Anna Belle Price Zoerb passed away Feb. 5, 2012, at the age of 87 years at the Callaway Good Samaritan Center with her husband by her side.
Anna Belle was born July 25, 1924, on a farm near Callaway to Bryan and Julia Anna Pitkin Price. She attended Brown Valley Country School through the 8th grade and then went to Callaway Public school where she graduated in 1942.
Following graduation, Anna Belle taught in three different Country Schools.

Neil Wood, 89

Neil LaVern Wood, 89 of Broken Bow, died Feb. 5, 2012 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow and the Masonic Lodge in Broken Bow.
His greatest joys in life were his family, playing golf, and ranching.
Neil L. Wood was born Aug. 20, 1922, to Walter and Edna (Downey) Wood at Kearney. He grew up in on his father's ranch on the South Loup River, in Custer County.

James R. Franssen, 71

James R. Franssen, age 71 of Broken Bow, died Sunday Jan. 29, 2012 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time at St. Josephs Catholic Church. A memorial will be designated by the family at a later date.
James R. Franssen was born March 18, 1940, in Andale, Kan., to Herman Franssen and Marcella Goetz-Franssen. He moved with his family to Callaway in 1947.

Brenda Minton, 59

Brenda Jean Minton, 59, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at her home in Merna. Brenda was born Dec. 27, 1952, at the Callaway Hospital to Joseph “Joe" and Betty Jean (Ault) Lindner of Oconto, and was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oconto.
At the age of four, Brenda left Nebraska and moved with her family to Utah and then Mesa Ariz. Brenda married Charles "Chuck" Minton May 8, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nev. To this union two sons were born; Martin Leonard and Michael Lee.
ln the mid-90s, Chuck and Brenda moved back to Nebraska into Brenda’s Grandma Lindner's house in Merna.

Max Chrisp, 85

Max W. Chrisp, 85, of Rogers, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan. 25, at his home. He was born Jan. 5, 1927, at Central City, to Elmer J. Chrisp and Ernestine Pearsons Chrisp.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Max William Chrisp Jr. and Terry Lee Chrisp.
