Walter F. Blake, son of Walter and Lucy (Baker-Peterson) Blake, was born June 26, 1922, in Mason City. He entered into rest Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island at the age of 89 years.
Walter attended school in Brewster where he graduated high school in 1940. He worked on the family farm raising cattle. He also attended Louisiana State University for a year where he studied mechanical engineering.
Walter joined the United States Army Dec. 7, 1942.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Pauline Clinard July 22, 1944, in Hopkinsville, Kent.
LaVonne D. Cords, age 73 of Broken Bow, died March 28, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Monday April 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial was in the Dunning Cemetery, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
Cleo June Peterson, 68 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at her home, with her family at her side.
Services were Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Evangelical Free Church in Hastings. A private burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Memorials are suggested to the Gideons International or the Evangel-ical Free Benevolent Fund. Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island was in charge of arrangements.
Floyd Lehmann, age 57, of Dunning, died March 28, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services were March 31, 2012, at the Open Bible Church in Dunning, with the Rev. Ralph McKay officiating. Burial was in the Dunning Cemetery, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
Harold L. Englert, 84, of North Platte, passed away March 27, 2012. He was born Dec. 3, 1927, to Lewis and Emma (Heins) Englert at Lodgepole.
He grew up in Dunning, before entering the service at age 18. He served as a member of the U.S. Army in WWII from 1946 to 1948. He was recalled to serve in the Korean Conflict from October 1950 to 1951, spending his time in Korea and Japan. He received a WWII Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal in Japan.
Carl D. Eacker, 80, of Penrose, Colo., died Monday, March 5, 2012. He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Merna.
Carl served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He worked at the Climax Molybdenum mine in Leadville, Colo., for 17 years. He was always fixing cars and loved doing it throughout his life.
He taught the mechanic trade to his children, their children, and his great-grandchildren.
Carl enjoyed hunting, camping and most of all, spending time with his large family.
Nelda "Babe" (Keller) Terry, age 68, of Riverside, Calif,, died Friday, March 9, 2012. She was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Broken Bow, Willard and Myra (Patterson) Keller.
Georgetta Lynn âJoâ Kelly, 38, of Cozad, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad.
Jo was born Nov. 2, 1973, in Beatrice, to David and Susan (Wolfe) Andersen. She obtained her GED in 2009.
Oct. 20, 1992, she was united in marriage to Ryan D. Kelly at the United Methodist Church in Eddyville. They made their home in and around the Lexington area. To this union three children were born; Justine, Austin and Briana Jo.
Carolyn Ann Collier passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney March 21, 2012. She was born Sept. 7, 1940, to Walter and Vera (Fichter) Rieber on their family farm near Minden, Iowa.
The family moved to Blaine County, Dec. 12, 1947. She attended school in Dunning, Brewster and Taylor. She was active in volleyball and enjoyed attending dances.
She married Irvin Pollard June 24, 1957, and to this union was born a son, Kirk, and a daughter, Karla.
Dr. Robert R. Koefoot, 89, long time medical surgeon of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Riverside Lodge with his family at his side.
Services were March 26, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson officiating. Burial was in Grand Island City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, Grand Island. Apfel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
