Michael Keith Hughes was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Ontario, Ore., to the family of Lyie and Dorothy (Meyers) Hughes. He joined two older sisters, Sherry and Carolyn, and later became big brother to two more sisters, Mary and Judy. Being the only son in a house full of girls led to Mike's advantage because he was always the special one.
Mike passed away Nov. 8, 2010, in Fort Stockton, Texas enroute home to Lockhart, Texas where he has lived for the last 30 years of his life.
Wilma M. Haddix, second child and oldest daughter of Newton and Mae Anna Tykwart Haddix, was born April 29, 1907, at the family farm northeast of Mason City. Wilma died Nov. 13, 2010, at the age of 103 years, 7 months and 15 days. Wilma died at the Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow where she had resided for 25 years.
Wilma attended the country school known as Union School. As so many Haddix children went to that school, it was also known as the Haddix School.
Mary K. Harmon 88, of Grand Island, died Nov. 11, 2010, at Golden LivingCenter Lakeview.
Mrs. Harmon was born May 26, 1922, in Mullen, to Clyde W. and Sofie K. (Johansen) McCully. Mrs. Harmon received her education in Lyman, and graduated from Lyman High School.
She married Oral Harmon June 1, 1940, in Stanford. Mary was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She worked with her husband as they farmed near Morrill for eight years. They then moved near Thedford where they ranched. Oral and Mary moved to Grand Island in 1966.
Bonnie L. Guilford, 82, of Broken Bow died Nov. 14, 2010.
Bonnie L. Guilford was born July 22, 1928, in Broken Bow to Roy and Hazel (Helmick) Ferguson. She lived in the Round Hill and Burr Oak community most of her life. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1946. Thereafter she attended Kearney College and graduated as a teacher and starting teaching at a country school called Flatt Bottom.
Kurt A. Gilmore, 41, of Miller, died Nov. 6, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born Jan. 4, 1969, in Callaway, to George and Dolores (Mason) Gilmore. He grew up and received his education in Merna.
He was married to Renee Lyon June 14, 2003, in Miller. They made their home in Miller. He was self employed and worked as a landscaper.
He lived in various places including Lincoln and Hastings where he worked for Earl May.
He loved the time spent with his family and gardening.
Terry Roy McCandless, 53, of Broken Bow, passed away Nov. 1, 2010, at Evanston, Wyo.
Terry was born June 6, 1957, in Callaway to Eldon and Jeannette (Landrey) McCandless. He attended grade school in Arnold and graduated from Anselmo-Merna High School in 1976. Terry lived most of his live in Custer County.
Terry married Brenda Sillivan July 22, 1978, in Sargent. They had two daughters, Kyra and Ginger.
Terry married Barbara Morgan June 29, 2002, in Broken Bow.
Bennie Crouch age 60, of Ansley died Oct. 25, 2010, at Grand Island.
Bennie Orel Crouch was born July 26, 1950, at Broken Bow, the first of four sons born to Harry and Maxine (Coffman) Crouch of Ansley. Bennie grew up in Ansley and attended Ansley Public Schools. He was working at SunHeat in Grand Island, at the time of his passing.
Margaret M.Casteel, age 91, of Halsey, died Nov. 8, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Herb Gerhard.
Wynona P. Rodocker, age 87, of Broken Bow, formerly of Halsey, Nov. 7, 2010, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow.
Wynona Rodocker was born May 14, 1923, South of Dunning, to Bert and Flossie (Cooper) Dent. She attended school and graduated from Halsey High School May 14, 1941.
January 24, 1942, Wynona married Floyd (Bud) Rodocker. Floyd served in the military until November 1945 while Wynona remained a homemaker who anxiously awaited Floydâ€™s letters.
Floyd Laverne Wahlgren, age 68 of Gothenburg, passed away Nov. 6, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Floyd was born Oct. 9, 1942, to Kenneth and Nola (McPheeters) Wahlgren.
He attended country school and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1961. Immediately following graduation, Floyd enlisted in the National Guard. He returned to the farm in 1962 to work for his father.
December 1, 1963, Floyd married his high school sweetheart, Marcy Uhlig. December 1, 2010, they would have been married for 47 years.
