LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory wants to be known for being more than just a pass rusher.
After leading the Big Ten with 10 1/2 sacks last season, he says he needs to become better as a run-stopper.
Gregory's difficulty holding his ground against the run stemmed from his struggle to maintain weight. He dropped as low as 230 pounds last season. Last week, the 6-foot-6 Gregory was up to 248.
CHICAGO (AP) — As he watched the BCS championship game last season, Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook could not help but wonder:
What if a playoff system were in place? Would the Spartans be playing for the biggest prize?
No need to wonder anymore. The old BCS system is out. A four-team playoff to determine a national champion is being implemented this season, and that could open some more opportunities for the Big Ten and the other four power conferences.
(AP) — If Nebraska coach Bo Pelini had his way, National Signing Day would be a thing of the past. And the result would be an improved recruiting process.
"You've made a commitment to a young man to come play in your program, why do we have to wait to any certain day?" Pelini said. "Why don't we just go ahead and let's sign on the dotted line, let's get it over with and move forward."
Bo Pelini may not even need a cute cat to keep the pressure off of him in Lincoln. In this Playoff Prognosis, Campus Insiders' Doug Chapman examines whether quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. and the revitalized Black Shirt defense are enough to get the Huskers into football's final four.
