Wind gusts over 60 mph literally blew the roof off a building in downtown Broken Bow Thursday afternoon. The building, on South D Street, houses Borders Law Office and the former site of Heritage Bank. Crews battled the strong winds to repair the roof and retrieve pieces of the blown off roof from neighboring buildings.

The Custer County Chapter of Pheasants Forever (PF) will host its 17th annual banquet on opening pheasant hunting weekend Oct. 26 at Huckleberryâ€™s Hideout in Broken Bow. The public is invited, as you do not need be a PF member to attend this event. Doors open at 5:30 pm with a BBQ brisket buffet dinner starting at 7 p.m. and a fundraising auction to follow. Along with a live and silent auction, the chapter will be conducting raffles for adults and kids of all ages on the night of the banquet.
Broken Bow - Custer County - you have some serious bragging rights.
October 16 Edison Mission Energy dedicated a 50-turbine wind farm, and city and county leaders joined energy developers from across the U.S. sitting front and center. Land owners filled in on the flanks.
The $145 million project know as Broken Bow LLC is located approximately three miles northeast of the city. The project, operated by Edison Mission Energy (EME) is capable of generating up to 80 megawatts of electricity, enough energy to meet the needs of about 25,000 homes in Nebraska.
Tackling childhood obesity, providing more nutritious meals for children - these are what you might call â€śhot buttonâ€ť topics right now. However, some caretakers of our youngest children are now trying to figure out how to provide those nutritious meals on less money.
Several Broken Bow in-home day care providers received letters from the food program a couple of weeks ago, informing them that the reimbursement they receive for the meals and snacks they provide is being cut - drastically cut.
Sandhills/Theford defeated Arthur County 2-0 (25-9, 25-13) and Hyannis 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 27-25, 15-8) to advance to the Sandhills Conference Volleyball Tournament semi finals. Their next match is against Brady Oct. 20.
Chantelle Milleson lead the way offensively with 11 kills while Madison Taylor chipped in 10 and Kelsey Higgins had seven.
Kaitlin Marten had 30 assists to go with 12 digs. Taylor Marten and Jacy Spencer had eight and seven digs respectively and Shaina Simonson had 10.
Sarah Miles had four serve aces.

Ansley-Litchfield took home the Loup Valley Conference crown, beating Twin Loup 3-1 in the finals. This was the fifth time these two teams have faced each other this season. Twin Loup is still the only team to beat Ansley-Litchfield, who's record now stands at 22-1. Arcadia-Loup City took third after beating Mullen 3-2 in the third place game.
