Broken Bow tops Gothenburg in Instant Classic

GOTHENBURG -- After Gothenburg's 21-20 triple-overtime victory last season, it was Broken Bow's turn to break the Swedes hearts on their home field. A late goal line stop by Grayson Minnick and and an interception by Jordan Lemburg helped Broken Bow seal a 15-14 victory to move to 2-0 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter by both teams, the Indians opened the scoring in the second with a one-yard run by full back Jeremy Christner. Quarterback Marcus Miller then completed  a pass to Christner for a two point conversion to push the lead to 8-0.

Allison Fees of Miller, and Joel Varah of Broken Bow, were married June 23, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton. Pastor Dean Hanson officiated the service with Father Mike McDonald speaking before the service began.
Bridesmaids were Roxanna Fees, Carmen Wolfe, Katie Cunningham, Sarah Foster, Melissa Weeder, Sarah Walquist and Rachel Tietjen. The flowergirl was Elizabeth Duhs and personal attendant was Margaret Lange.

Injured players and families say ‘thank you’

Just nine days after celebrating his 18th birthday, Chad Christensen joined his basketball teammates to say thank you to those who supported them during their time of recovery and healing.
In an open house Sept. 9, the eight members of the Broken Bow boys basketball team involved in the tragic June 1 accident, along with their families, greeted members of the community - as well as members of the rescue squads and fire department that responded to the accident.

Fire burns 1,000 acres near Anselmo

ANSELMO - - Reports indicate a fire east of Anselmo Sept. 6, burned as much as 1,000 acres of land before finally being contained during the early evening hours.
The fire broke out at around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon about three miles east of Anselmo on the Victoria Springs Road. Departments from Anselmo, Merna, Sargent, Broken Bow, Callaway, Arnold, Dunning, Brewster, Ansley, Comstock, Taylor, Burwell and the Halsey National Forest, along with two air support planes, responded to the blaze.

Destani Wilder, 11

Destani SummerRose Wilder, 11, of Sargent, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in an automobile accident near Miller.
Destani was born to Amanda Ogden July 23, 2001, in Broken Bow. Three years later, Richard Wilder came into her life and, on Dec. 12, 2005, Richard adopted her and her younger sister, Montannah.

Charles "Bill" Estes, 97

Charles Phillip “Bill” Estes was born Dec. 22, 1914, at Dunning, to Elmer Ralph and Loretta Verona (Rice) Estes. He moved to the Lillian community in 1921, where he spent the majority of his 97 years.
He was baptized Feb. 20, 1929, and was a lifetime member of the Lillian Church of Christ. Bill attended elementary school at Lillian, and high school at Gates, graduating as Valedictorian of his class in 1933. He excelled in track, basketball, and softball and earned several gold medals at the Custer County track meet.

Lavern Dickman, 78

Lavern D.(Vern) Dickman, 78, lost his short fought battle with Cancer Sept. 3, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, surrounded by his loving family.
Vern was born in Sargent, to Otto and Lillie (Wolf) Dickman May, 25, 1934. Vern attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Sargent High School in May 1951.
The day after graduation he went to Broken Bow and bought his first truck, and from then on trucking was his life.

Keith Dubry, 85

Keith F. Dubry, 85, went to be with the Lord Sept. 7, 2012, at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. (CT) Saturday, Sept. 15, at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Thedford, with Pastor Ted Meter and the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Thedford with military rites. Cremation has taken place at Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff. There will be no visitation.

Arthur Dilsaver, 80

Arthur William (Bud) Dilsaver, 80 of Ord, died Aug. 31, 2012, at 2 a.m. at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born June 22, 1927, to Arthur E. and Mary Margaret (Replogle) Dilsaver in the Madison Square Community in Loup County.
He graduated from Loup County High School in 1944. He helped out on the family farm raising black Angus cattle, pigs, corn and oats. He loved to ride horses. He worked there until Sept. 4, 1949, when he married Marie Maybelle (Dunbar) at the United Methodist Church in Taylor.

Mary Stone, 86

September 12, 2012

Mary Ellen Armour Stone was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Western, Nebr., to Ernest M. and Anna K. Winter Armour. She was the youngest of four children.
She graduated from Western High School and the University of Nebraska with a degree in business administration. While at the university, she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and served on the Panhellenic Association Board.
