Nebraska to open 2017 football season against Arkansas St.

May 18, 2015

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska will open the 2017 football season against Arkansas State in Lincoln.

The Nebraska athletic department announced Monday that the Red Wolves would visit Memorial Stadium on Sept. 2. The game will be the third between the schools. Nebraska won 38-9 in 2009 and 42-13 in 2012.

The addition of Arkansas State completes Nebraska's 2017 schedule. The Cornhuskers' non-conference schedule also includes a game at Oregon and a matchup with Northern Illinois in Lincoln.

With water gone, Purdue-Nebraska is set for Haymarket Park

May 8, 2015

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska will be able to play its baseball series against Purdue at Haymarket Park in Lincoln after all.

The athletic department announced Friday that the three-game series would start Saturday at 12:05 p.m. That's two hours earlier than originally scheduled. The game was moved up because of a forecast calling for rain.

Officials said Thursday it would be doubtful the series could be played at Haymarket because of an 8-inch rain that left the field under water. Coach Darin Erstad and his staff looked for an alternate site for Saturday.

Nebraska guard Tarin Smith transferring to Duquesne

May 7, 2015

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Nebraska guard Tarin Smith is transferring to Duquesne.

Coach Jim Ferry announced Wednesday that Smith has signed a financial aid agreement and will be with the team this fall. Smith must sit out the 2015-16 season per NCAA transfer rules. He will have three seasons of eligibility with the Dukes.

Smith averaged 4.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 2014-15 for the Cornhuskers and was one of only four players to see action in each of Nebraska's 31 games.

Cowboys grab sliding pass rusher Randy Gregory in 2nd round

May 6, 2015

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Randy Gregory is confident the Dallas Cowboys won't have to worry about off-the-field issues that caused the former Nebraska defensive end with first-round talent to slide to the end of the second round.

"Because I know where my mindset is at," Gregory said after the Cowboys made him the 60th overall pick Friday night. "I know I made a mistake. I know there is only so much I can say — talk is cheap sometimes. I really want to show these guys what I can do and I am really serious about what I say."
