Bobcats, Lady Warriors triumphant in LVC

BURWELL -- The South Loup Bobcats became the boys Loup Valley Conference Champions in Burwell last Thursday. The Bobcats battled the Sargent Bulldogs for the top spot all day but in the end the Bobcats 7.5 points better Bulldogs. In the girls race, the Ansley Lady Warriors ran away with the LVC team title taking charge of the event finals. The Lady Warriors tallied 121 points with the Sargent Lady Bulldogs coming in second with 96 points.
The top individual performers on the day were Sargent’s Jed and Guy Fenske along with Ansley’s Chelsea Entz and Siera Rohde.
Jed Fenske began his day breaking Sargent’s school record in pole vault at 14 feet to become the LVC champion. Jed also became the LVC champion in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was on the champion 4x100 meter relay team with his brother Guy. Also on the relay team was Ridge Horky and Tyke Kozeal. Guy became the LVC champion in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. Horky and Kozeal also picked up a LVC championship as Horky won the triple jump and Kozeal won the 110 meter hurdles.
Entz won three individual LVC titles and was on the champion 4x100 meter relay team with Rohde, Katie Drake and Tristen Reed. Entz’s three titles came in the triple jump, 100 and 200 meter dashes. Rohde became the LVC champion in the 400 meter dash and placed second to Entz in the 200 meter dash. Rohde was also one-fourth of the LVC champion 4x400 meter relay team. Drake also ran a leg on the girls 4x400 relay team and also won the LVC crown in the girls 100 meter hurdles.
For the team champion Bobcats, Tanner Cline became the LVC champion in the long jump, Kyle Pierce claimed the crown in the 3200 meter run and the Bobcat 4x400 meter relay team won the title clinching the team victory.
The Bobcats had many runner-up finishes. Drew Bowers was second in shot put, Zane Ellis took second in the 100 meter dash, Taylor Linegar was second in the 200 meter dash and Brandon Peterson finished second to teammate Pierce in the 3200 meter run. Pierce also won two more second place medals for the Bobcats in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. South Loup also claimed second place honors in the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relays.
Four Lady Bulldogs were crowned as LVC individual champions. Rebecca Davenport won the long jump, Megan Davis won the high jump, Brenda Maldonado turned in the fastest time in the 3200 meter run and Madison Kozeal won the 800 meter run.
South Loup’s Kali Blevins became the LVC champion setting a new LVC record in pole vault at eight feet-six inches.
LVC champions for Mullen include Gabriel Connealy in discus, Bryan Gray in the 300 meter hurdles, Madison Tomlinson in the 300 meter hurdles and the boys 4x800 meter relay team.
Anselmo-Merna and Arcadia each produced two LVC champions. For the Coyotes, Trey Gilligan won the high jump and Jessi Burnett was the champion in shot put. Arcadia’s Hollie O’Brien won the LVC title in discus and the Arcadia girls 4x800 meter relay team was crowned as victors.
Ansley’s Ryan Hircock won the LVC championship in shot put and Loup County’s Kindra Dunbar had the winning time in the 1600 meter run to win Loup County’s lone LVC crown.
