Broken Bow Juniors drop two of three

The Broken Bow junior baseball team rebounded from two straight losses with an 18-2 win against Overton June 8 in the Holdrege junior tournament. They opened the tournament with an 11-4 loss to Kearney. On June 6, Broken Bow fell to Cozad 16-2.

Against Overton Broken Bow put the game away in the third inning, scoring 15 runs. Hunter Minnick was the leading RBI man, driving in three as he went 2-3 from the plate with a single and double. Josey Evans, Travis Kleeb, Josh Jacobsen and Noel Chapin each added two singles.

Scott Davis, Bo Slingsby and Tommy McCormick also added singles, giving each Broken Bow player at least one hit.

Chapin had a very strong performance on the mound. He pitched all five innings played and allowed just one earned run while striking out four, allowing four hits and walking two.

Kearney flexed their power once again, gaining the season sweep over Broken Bow. Josey Evans went 1-3 with a double while crossing the plate twice. Shea also went 1-3 and drove in two of Broken Bow's four runs on the two-RBI double.

Davis and scott also scored runs on the game. Kleeb added two singles while McCormick, Jacobsen and Davis each added singles.

McCormick, Evans and Shea combined to strike out just two batters as they collectively allowed 11 earned runs on 11 hits and also walked 11.

In the June 6 game against Cozad, Bo Slingsby had the team's lone RBI despite not recording a hit. Kleeb went 1-3 with a single and scored a run while Scott scored the other run and went 2-2 at the plate with two singles.

Minnick and Davis also added hits.

Kleeb pitched 3 2/3 and struck out two while allowing five hits and walking one and giving up no earned runs. Cozad did their damage against Davis, limiting him to one inning as he allowed seven earned runs while walking five, striking out two and allowing three hits.
