Brooks key in Spirit 16U tourney win

Jasmyn Brooks of the Spirit 16u team fires a pitch toward the plate during their game against Ord Thursday night. Brooks struck out 11 and had a two-run inside the park homerun.

Jasmyn Brooks took command of the mound and pitched 11 strikeouts in the Broken Bow Spirit 16U game vs Ord Thursday night.

Charmayne Popp got things started for Broken Bow with an RBI single to put them up 1-0 in the top of the 3rd. Bow would also score on a passed ball and an RBI double from Karly Boje, giving them a 3-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings.

Ord put together a three-run inning in the bottom of five to knot the game at three, but Broken Bow responded in the top of six with a score on a wild pitch from Hanna Lane and a two-run inside the park homerun from Brooks to top it off at 6-3.

The 16U team will play the Spirit 18U team in second round action Saturday at 9 a.m. at Ord.
