Community mourns loss of teacher

The community of Broken Bow is saddened this week by the news that Mike Buckles, Social Studies teacher at Broken Bow High School, died September 21, after a courageous battle with cancer.

In order to allow staff members and students to attend the funeral services, school will not begin until noon Tuesday, Sept. 24. Buses will run accordingly and lunch will be served.

Funeral Services for Mike Buckles, age 59, of Broken Bow, will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 10 am, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow, with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Rosary will be recited Monday, Sept. 23, at 7 pm, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Martin, South Dakota Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 23, until 5 p.m. at Govier Brothers. A memorial has been established to the family. Mike is survived by his wife Kim Buckles of Broken Bow; sons Jason Buckles of Merriman, and Tigh Buckles of Lincoln, and brother Bob Buckles of Ainsworth.
