Custer County challenge is on

August 5, 2013

Who has the most beautiful community in Custer County?
Grow Custer Communities, a group spearheaded by Custer Economic Development Corporation, spends time each month focusing on housing issues throughout the county. A recurring theme is that Custer County has some tremendous neighborhoods and properties with potential.
In order to put a spotlight on both, the group, in partnership with the Custer County Chief and KCNI/ KBBN, is issuing a friendly competition to determine who has the most beautiful community in the county.
In order to find out, members of Grow Custer Communities will travel each month, September through November, to judge each community based on beautification efforts in three categories: residential, commercial and public spaces. Broken Bow will be divided up into four quadrant communities to make the scoring more even.
Members of Grow Custer Communities will be presenting the project at various village board meetings during the first two weeks in August.
“Our communities already do a ton of great things to express community pride through their beautification efforts. This is a way for us to celebrate that hard work, promote our communities, and find new ways make our neighborhoods even better,” said Melissa Garcia, CEDC President.
Ways to get involved include groomed lawns, commercial greenscapes and decorations, clean parks, and extra points for any community service projects. To find out how to get your community involved or to learn more about the scoring criteria contact CEDC at 308-870-5012 or
Partners in Grow Custer Communities include Village of Ansley, Arnold Economic Development Corporation, Village of Sargent, City of Broken Bow, CEDC, Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Bank, Bank of Broken Bow, Nebraska State Bank, Central Nebraska Housing Developers and Stock Realty.
