Donald D. Mason, 82, of Grand Island, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Tabor Manor Care Center in
Tabor, Iowa.
Services were Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at the Litchfield Christian Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Marty Robbins officiating. Burial was in the Litchfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled Veterans.
Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna was in charge of arrangements.
Donald Dean Mason was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Custer County, to James Frank and Annie (Fowlie)
Mason. He was educated in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1949.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and was stationed in San Diego, Calif.
He married LaVon Heisner March 4, 1951, in Litchfield. They made their home in Litchfield until 1955, when they moved to Broken Bow where he began his 38-year career with Custer Public Power. In 1968 they moved to Sargent, where he managed the sub-station there
until his retirement in 1994.
They wintered in Arizona from 1996 to 2011. They moved to Grand Island in 2004.
Survivors include his wife, LaVon of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Konnie and Dennis Bartley of Malvern, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Glenda Mason of Grand Island; four
grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, one brother and one son.
