If you drink and drive you lose!

December 13, 2013

Beginning Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014, the Broken Bow Police Department will be involved in the statewide “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” Selective DUI Enforcement.

This is a coordinated effort of law enforcement agencies to decrease the number of impaired drivers in our communities. This selective enforcement is funded through a Nebraska Office of Highway Safety grant.

Several Nebraska Alcohol-Related Statistics:
• In 2012, there were 30,443 crashes in Nebraska, 1,779 alcohol-related vehicle crashes.
• In 2012, there were 10,605 arrests made for Driving Under the Influence in Nebraska. Of those, 9528 were convicted.
• In 2012, there were 190 fatal vehicles crashes, resulting in 212 deaths. Of those 212 fatal crashes, 81 (41%) were alcohol-related and resulted in 87 deaths.
• In 2012 there were 11,021 crashes resulting in injury, of those 842 were alcohol related.

Statistics above provided by the Nebraska Department of Highway Safety

Our goal with this selective enforcement is to use additional Officers, highly visible saturation patrols and DWI checkpoints to seek out suspected drunk drivers and arrest them; thus, creating safer streets for the citizens of Broken Bow.
