Jay. T. Evans, 87, formerly of Berwyn, died Feb. 28, 2013, at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Memorial services were Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Roby Funeral Home of Plattsmouth was in charge of arrangements.
Jay Theodore Evans was born May 18, 1925, at Berwyn, to Otto Evans and Ruby (Knapp) Evans. He had one sister, Cleo (Evans) Allen, who preceded him in death.
He attended grade school and high school at Berwyn, and graduated from Berwyn High School. Jay spent most of his life farming and ranching on his property south of Berwyn.
He married Kaye Oliver Martin Jan. 2, 1983, who he and everybody else agreed was the best thing to ever happen to him. The couple made their home at Johnson Lake and later Buckeye, Ariz., before retiring to the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
Jay enjoyed traveling, camping and helping Kaye with her crafts and at craft fairs. He attended church at the Methodist Church in Berwyn, and the United Methodist Church at Elwood. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; a nephew, Jerry Allen; and by Kaye’s son, Bobbie Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye; his nephew, Robert Allen and wife, Carla; great-nephews, Scott Reynolds and his wife Elizabeth and their two children Brittany and Grant, Todd Reynolds and wife Lori and their four children Austin, Dillon, Lauren and Nathan; great-nieces, Laurie Sokolik and her two children Jack and Ellie, and Karie Semin and husband Eric and their four children Grady, Connor, Kade and Broghan; great-nephew Kyle Allen and wife Stephanie and their two children Kaitlin and Reese; Kaye’s children, Larry Dean Martin of Austin, Texas, Judith Lynn Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cheryl Kaye Martin of Show Low, Ariz.; and by Kaye’s grandchildren and other friends and family.
Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home at Plattsmouth.
