Leona B. "Onie" Dugger, 89
Leona B. “Onie”(Parker) Dugger was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Elsmere, to David E. and Jessie O. (Coburn) Parker, the fifth of six children. She passed away July 23, 2014, at the age of 89, in North Platte. She graduated from Thomas County High School in 1943 and married Joe Dugger Sept. 16, 1944. To this union two daughters were born, Judy and Mary Alice. Joe and Onie lived on the Marion Lee Ranch at Brownlee until 1959 when they moved into Thedford so that Judy could go to high school. Onie worked for Miller’s Grocery, the Arrowhead Lodge, The Cowpoke Inn, the school as a lunch lady and she also helped with the bookmobile. She was known throughout the community by the kids as “Grandma Onie.” She also spent one year in Lincoln as House Mother at the TKE House. She was awarded the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor award in 1996, which she was very proud of. She belonged to the Rebeccas for 40 years and was a lifetime member of the Legion Auxiliary. In 1998 she moved to North Platte to Autumn Park. In 2009 she moved to Centennial Park Assisted Living until she was moved over to health care in December of 2013 where she remained until her death. She was a happy, fun loving person who enjoyed life to the max! She loved to joke and kid. She loved to “make” things. We have forgotten the number of hair-roller baskets she made or the stuffed frogs, or tissue box covers of plastic canvas, or quilted photo albums, or the embroidered pillowcases and tea towels. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Alice (Doug) Curtis of Elsie; grandson, Josh (Hope) Hansen of Scottsbluff; granddaughter, Jackie Curtis of Colby, Kan.; grandson, Jake Cline of Salina, Kan.,; granddaughter Paige (Shayne) Zutavern of Lincoln; two great-grandsons, Schyler and Zane Zutavern; sister-in-law, Margret Dugger of Bassett; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe in 1984; her daughter, Judy in 2012; three brothers, Ed, Orie and Alvie Parker; her sister Mina Downing; an infant sister; all of her in-laws; seven nephews and two nieces. Memorials are suggested to the Hillcrest Cemetery in Thedford. Condolences may be sent to Mary Alice Curtis, PO Box 66, Elsie, NE 69134. Services were Monday, July 28, at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford. Arnold Mullen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
