Marion Scott, 82

Marion Wilton Scott (Scotty) was born April 21, 1931, in Arnold. He departed this life on Patriots Day, Sept. 11, 2013, in Callaway.
He lived his early years with his family around Arnold and Ansley. After graduating from Arnold High School in 1948, he enlisted in the Navy.
Marion married Frances Geiser May 9, 1954. Marion and Frances raised two children born of this union - daughter Melva and son Loren.
After his service in the Navy, Marion worked driving trucks, working for local farmers and in the Jack & Jill grocery store until he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. While working for the post office, Marion also worked for Spargo Gas Company and Hartman's T.V. before starting his own business, Scott's Construction.
Marion was always available to his family and friends in their times of need and he served his community as a member of the Arnold Volunteer Fire Department and helped the funeral directors in Arnold for many years.
He also served as an officer in the Arnold Alumni Association.
He was a member of the Legion Post 130, Elks Lodge 1688, VFW and the First Baptist Church.
Marion had many hobbies that he enjoyed; hunting, fishing, golf, playing games and socializing with his many friends and family.
Marion retired from the Postal Service September 1987 and continued to work at his business until recent years as his health diminished.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents George and Ethel Scott; wife Frances; siblings - Maxine, Eugene, Nellie Mae, Margaret, Barbara and Maurice; children term infant twins; and infant great-grandchild Thorne Phillips.
He is survived by daughter Melva Phillips (Bill Snyder), son Loren Scott (Lori), grandchildren Ty Phillips (Sandy), Shawn Phillips (Sandra), Jessica Phillips (Matt Fletcher), Lindsey Scott (Daniel Ventura) and Landis Scott; great grandchildren Stone and Saffron Phillips, Ethan and Jordaine Phillips, Dagen Fletcher and Archer Ventura; sisters Marie Blincow, Viola Geiser, Marlene (Nick) Rimple, Charlene (Chuck) Mahnke and brother Dee (Marilyn) Scott; also by numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.
Services were conducted Sept. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Arnold with Pastor Irving Jennings officiating. Music was by Scott Grimes, “In Color.” Pallbearers were Ty Phillips, Stone Phillips, Shawn Phillips, Ethan Phillips, Jessica Phillips, Dagen Fletcher, Lindsey Scott, Archer Ventura, Landis Scott, and Alan Gunther. Honorary pallbearers were all of his nephews and nieces who made him so proud to be called “Uncle Marion.”
Military honor guard was by American Legion Post 130 and V.F.W. 6157 - United States Navy. Interment was in the Arnold Cemetery.
