MOPS sponsor run/walk ‘Bunny Hop’

March 7, 2013

The Broken Bow Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) invites everyone to hop along the trail with them Easter weekend.
The group is hosting a fundraiser “Bunny Hop” 5K fun run and 1-mile walk March 30. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Fox Seasonal Farms, and the run/walk will get started at 7:30 a.m. The entry fee is $25, which includes a T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded in each category.
The group asks that you pre-register for the event by March 11, which can be done on their Facebook page at BrokenBowMopsBunnyHop.
This is the first year for the run/walk event. For the past few years the MOPS group has hosted an antiquities photo shoot as their yearly fundraiser project, and decided to try something new this year.
Mother of Preschoolers is an international program designed to meet the needs of moms, from conception through kindergarten. Regardless of your age, whether you are a working mom or stay at home mom, or even how many children you may already have had - MOPS provides a support network for all moms. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 831 Buffalo Run Road in Broken Bow. Supervised child care is available.
Local MOPS Coordinator Michelle Simmons has lived in Broken Bow for three years, and says MOPS is a good way for young moms or gals new to the area to meet other women and form new friendships. The meetings alternate between programs; half the time a speaker, either inspirational or educational, is featured. Topics covered have included self defense and Internet safety.
The other half of the time the ladies learn a craft Simmons says some of the women have not only had fun designing crafts for themselves and their families, but have also used some of the ideas for sideline in-home business opportunities.
Unlike most other MOPS groups, says Simmons, the local chapter does not charge a membership fee or charge for any craft supplies or speakers. Money from these yearly fundraisers is used to pay those costs.
Simmons says the group is excited about this new fundraising event, and they have received a good response to it - including already obtaining a few sponsors.
Simmons quotes the MOPS slogan, “Better moms make a better world”, and encourages all new moms and mothers of young children to give it a try by attending one of the meetings. And the moms hope to see you on the “bunny hop” March 30.
