Robert Duryea, 83

Robert (Bob) Erwin Duryea, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died June 5, 2011, from congestive heart failure. he was 83-years-old at his passing. Bob will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert was born in Dunning, Dec. 26, 1927, to Lorenzo (Dick) Duryea and Verna Mae (Honeywell) Duryea. Bob grew up in Blaine County and graduated from Brewster High School in 1944. he served his country during World War II in the Army, and then returned to the Brewster area.
He worked a variety of jobs, including delivering milk to the school, where he met his devoted wife of 58 years, Edna Louise Hartley. They married and moved to Broken Bow in 1954, where they have lived since.
Bob was employed as a produce manager for OP Skaggs and a salesman for the Broken Bow Wholesale, later known as Cashway. He also worked as a salesman for an investment company and Tasco, a company that sold promotional/marketing materials.
Bob’s hobbies included being an avid golfer and a great dancer. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, and he loved playing or doing anything with his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Edna, and their two children, son Michael and wife Betsy of Lakewood, Colo., and daughter Teresa of Houston, Texas. Bob was the proud grandfather of Theresa’s children, Nicole, Kirsten, Alex and Erin Rice, and Michael and Betsy’s children, Brittany and Kendra Duryea. Bob is also survived by his sister, Evelyne White of Broken Bow; nephew, Bob White of Lubbock, Texas, and nieces, Karen Hutsell of Louisburg, Kan., and Patty Zeleski of Lincoln.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 1-6 p.m. June 19 at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The family will be present from 4:30-6 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. June 20, at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. Immediately following the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., all are invited to join the family for a reception and light lunch at the church. The family will travel to York for a private interment service at the Greenwood Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. All friends are welcome at the interment service. After the interment service the family will meet at Chances R Restaurant in York; friends are welcome.
The family respectfully requests memorial contributions in the memory of Robert Erwin Duryea be directed to Custer Care Assisted Living and American Diabetes Foundation.
