Spirit 16u earns victory over Ravenna

June 19, 2013

The Broken Bow Spirit 16U team notched another win Monday night, defeating Ravenna 10-2.
Ashley Markham kept Ravenna off the board in the first inning as she recorded two strikeouts. Broken Bow then jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Ashley Markham, Jasmyn Brooks and Charmayne Popp.
Ravenna put up one run in the top of the 2nd inning on an RBI single as Markham struck out two more batters.
Brooks continued to swing a hot bat in the bottom of the second, driving in Hanna Lane and Kerri DeGroff on a two RBI- single.
That extended the lead to 5-1 and were Lane and DeGroff’s second runs scored of the game.
Ravenna managed just one run in the top of the 3rd and Bow responded with one of their own. Their second run came when Courtney Bailey walked to lead off the bottom of the third and was able to come around to score on sacrifice flys and Broken Bow extended their lead to 6-2.
Courtney Bailey would score once more to go with two runs from Karly Boji and one run from Kate Sweley.
Broken Bow had forced six Ravenna strikeouts by games end.
The win over Ravenna came just one day after they finished 3rd overall at districts and qualified for the state tournament.
The 16u team will serve their bye week next week before taking on Spalding on the road June 24.
Upcoming Spirit Softball Games
They also have upcoming dates with Burwell, North Loup/Scotia and Arcadia before competing in the Ord Senior Tournament, which runs July 11-13 and is double elimination.
