Spirit 18U advance to second round of League Tourney with win over NLS

Hannah Evans of the Broken Bow Spirit 18U fires a pitch toward the plate during the Spirit's league tournament game against NLS Thursday night.

The Broken Bow Spirit 18U team advanced to the second round of the League Tournament Thursday night with a 14-4 victory over North Loup-Scotia.

Lizzie Griffith got Broken Bow on the board first getting a ball in play that scored Tressa Ripp on her groundout to first base in the top of the 1st.

The Spirit broke the game open in the top of the 2nd with a seven-run inning that included RBIs from Morgan Hueftle, Sami Gaston, Hannah Evans and Katie Kirkpatrick.

They would stretch their lead to 13-1 before the 4th inning and the game would end in 5 innings.

Evans picked up the win on the mound.

They will take on their in-town counterparts, the Spirit 16U team in the 2nd round of the tournament. The loser will get a chance to fight their way through the consolation bracket. The 16U team topped the 18U 8-7 in their previous matchup.
