The 23rd Annual Callaway Kite Flight is this weekend four miles southwest of Callaway.
CALLAWAY - - In late summer, kites fill the sky and crowds fill the community of Callaway during the Annual Callaway Kite Flight Labor Day weekend, Sept. 7-8. This event, sanctioned by the American Kite Association, brings guests from across the country and overseas to fly, display and watch kites of all colors, shapes and sizes.
This year will mark the 23rd anniversary of the Kite Flight. Flying begins at Foster Smith Field four miles southeast of Callaway at just after 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Professionals and amateurs can enjoy separate fly zones. The field will be open from 8 a.m.-noon Monday for flying.
ARCADIA - - With many area communities hosting summer celebrations, Arcadia prefers to celebrate as the hussle and bussle of summer begins to wind down. The town’s annual Fall Festival is always held Labor Day weekend, and nobody does up Labor Day like Arcadia!
The event’s popular demolition derby draws competitors from across central Nebraska and begins at 3 p.m. Sunday. Events conclude Monday, Labor Day, with several activities.
The real highlight of the Fall Festival, however, is the annual parade. According to organizers, the annual Fall Festival parade has the reputation of being central Nebraska’s largest parade - with more than 100 entries. This year's parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the theme "Name That Tune."
The crowning of the Fall Festival Queen follows the parade, which is then followed by a barbecue. The Junior Rodeo will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
The community also hosts talent shows Saturday and Sunday evenings, and a Ranch Rodeo Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
