Three Sargent/Burwell wrestlers advance to Class C championship semifinals

The Sargent/Burwell Horndogs had three wrestlers advance to the championship semifinals to guarantee themselves a medal. The Horndogs also sit in second place in the team standings just four points behind Wood River after the first two rounds of competition. The three wrestlers who advanced to the championship semifinals are Justin Miller (112), Jed Fenske (145) and Tanner Balfour (152).
Sargent/Burwell wrestlers who won their first round matches but lost in the quarterfinal round falling into the consolation bracket were Evan Gideon (103), Kirby Pomplun (119), Grady McIntosh (125) and Brett Mauler (160).
Also for Sargent/Burwell, Samuel Lee (130) and Cody Cassidy (135) lost their first round matches and will wrestle in the first round consolations beginning at 12:30 this afternoon.
Of the three Broken Bow wrestlers at the State Tournament, Matt Denson (135) was the only was the only first round winner but lost in the quarterfinals to fall into the consolation bracket. Devin O’Brien (171) and Derek McCormick (189) lost their first round matches and will wrestle in the first round consolations beginning at 12:30 this afternoon.
