Tractor accident takes life

May 1, 2013

A tragic accident took the life of Joe A. Willhoit, 58, of North Platte Tuesday evening on State Highway 70 just east of Westerville.
According to Deb Collins of the Nebraska State Patrol, a 1991 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Joseph White, 25, of Sargent was traveling east on Highway 70 when the vehicle ran into the back end of a tractor driven by Willhoit shortly before 7:30 p.m.
The tractor spun into the north ditch and the car rolled into the south. Willhoit died at the scene and White was transported to Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow where he was treated and released.
There were no available restraints on the tractor. White was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The Nebraska State Patrol investigated the accident and was assisted by the Custer County Sheriff’s Office. The accident report has been completed and forwarded to the Custer County Attorney.
The accident occurred Tuesday as the Chief was going to press. More information will be included next week if it becomes available.
