Wilder charged with felony child abuse

October 24, 2012

SARGENT - - Felony child abuse charges have been filed in both Buffalo County and Custer County against a Sargent woman, following a crash that resulted in the death of two people..
Amanda M. Wilder, 28 of Sargent, has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse in Buffalo County, and one count of felony child abuse in Custer County. The charges are the result of an accident Aug. 22 near Miller, in which the pickup truck Wilder was driving rolled and killed 11-year-old Destani Wilder and 24-year-old Rebecca Veeder of Sargent.
Wilder’s 8-year-old daughter, Montannah, was also in the vehicle and was not seriously injured.
Neither of the children were wearing their seat belts. All occupants of the vehicle other than Montannah were ejected from the pickup, according to the accident report. According to the report, it is estimated that Wilder was traveling about 77 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone at the time of the accident.
Nebraska law clearly states that anyone under the age of 6 must be in a child safety seat or booster seat, and anyone under the age of 18 must wear a seat belt at all times in a moving vehicle.
Wilder is set for preliminary hearing in Buffalo County Court Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. She is set for arraignment in Custer County Court Nov. 21 at 9 a.m. on one charge of child abuse, a Class IIIA felony.
She was released from the Buffalo County Jail Tuesday evening on $1,500 cash bond.
