Special Easter Services

April 18, 2014

The following area churches have submitted service information for special services being conducted at their churches during Holy Week.

Broken Bow First Baptist Church: Easter Sunday - 8 a.m. Early Easter Worship, 8:30 a.m. breakfast; 9:30: Bible School for all ages, 10:45: We Worship!

Miller Christian Church: Easter Sunrise Service, will leave the church to go to the cross at 6:45 a.m. A carry-in breakfast will follow the service, with church service at 8:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Loup 2 Loup road race gives back

April 18, 2014

On August 8, 2013 the 2nd annual Loup 2 Loup (L2L) Open Road Race asked its surrounding communities to help with the race that runs the 12 miles between Halsey and Purdum and back again. Just like the year before they came forward to help in so many ways. Some gave their time selling T-shirts and cooking breakfast while others sat along the course and kept watch on the road to keep the drivers safe.

Lightford sentenced to prison

April 17, 2014

Christopher M. Lightford, 23, was sentenced in Custer County District Court Thursday, April 17, and this time Judge Karin Noakes did not go easy on him.
Lightford was found guilty of one count of theft by taking, and was on probation for the same charge at the time of his arrest. In August 2013, he was ordered to serve 1 year supervised probation and make restitution of $2,680. However, just a year later he was back in jail for the same offense.

Early Nebraska voters first to see changes affecting primary ballots

April 17, 2014

LINCOLN - Early voters will be the first in Nebraska to note changes affecting this year's primary ballots, says Secretary of State John Gale. Most notably, some partisan races will not appear, based on passage of LB 56 in the current legislative session.

Bills passed last week on water, voting and prison sentences

April 14, 2014

LINCOLN -- April 10 was a busy day at the State Capitol as
lawmakers passed bills that would create a water sustainability
fund, allow same-day voting and reduce the recidivism rate of offenders
released from prison, among other things.

LB565, introduced by Sen. John Nelson of Omaha was one of those passed this week. The bill will create new procedures for registering to vote
and casting an early ballot on the same day. Early ballots will be placed in an envelope with the voter's name and address and kept securely for counting. It cannot be counted if an

City-wide cleanup set for Saturday

April 11, 2014

Spring’s the time when grannies always rallied their whole family for wholesale cleanup and fix-up down on the farm.
The age-old spring cleaning and fix-up tradition has fostered Earth Day, Arbor Day and now it’s whole communities rallying forces around a general “pound out the rugs” activity.

Community-wide cleanup day is April 12 in Broken Bow and the “granny” who is figuratively wielding the rug beater is Donnis Bullock, Broken Bow Chamber Executive.
