A former Broken Bow music teacher was found shot to death in San Antonio, Texas - apparently the victim of a murder suicide.
Deanna Tiller, 50, was working as an elementary music teacher in San Antonio at the time of her death. According to the Broken Bow Public Schools Superintendent’s Office, Tiller had been hired by this district in August 2007, and served as grades 6-12 choir teacher until May 2008. She had also previously taught and lived in Loup City.
According to reports, Tiller’s body was discovered Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the master bathroom of the home she shared with her 54-year-old boyfriend. The body of the boyfriend was found in the master bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head. The man has been identified as Mark Tingler. The cause of Tiller’s death has not yet been released. The couple is believed to have died Feb. 16.
Tiller’s co-workers became concerned when she failed to show up for work that Tuesday. There was no school Monday, in observance of President’s Day. Deputies discovered the couple at about 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Tiller’s 20-year-old son was in the home at the time police arrived and was questioned. He stated that he had seen the couple arguing Saturday night, but police were uncertain about whether he was there at the time of the shooting or how long he had been there prior to their arrival.
Tiller moved to Texas from Broken Bow, and had taught the past two years at Allen Elementary School. According to Custer County District Court records, Tiller was divorced from her husband in August 2009.
The Custer County Chief will continue to follow this story as details become available.
