Shirley A. Krause, age 85 of Ansley, died Feb. 13, 2014, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Ansley High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Mel Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5 - 7 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Ansley Rescue Unit. Interment will be at the Ansley Cemetery.
Shirley (Nutter) Krause was born July 13, 1928 in Fairbury, to Walter Pearl and Catherine (Lindmeier) Nutter. The family moved to a ranch near Thedford in April 1936. She attended school in Thedford and graduated with the class of 1945.
Following graduation Shirley worked in the County Extension Office before teaching two years at the Norway school west of Thedford.
Shirley was united in marriage to Eugene Krause on May 29, 1948. To this union three children were born. They lived on the family farm near Ansley until 1987, when they moved to their home in Ansley.
Shirley began teaching the fourth grade in Ansley Public Schools in 1961. While teaching, she graduated from Kearney State College with a B.A. in Education in 1966. During her 33 years of teaching, she was dedicated to making sure every student received the encouragement and tools required to achieve their very best, never giving up on any student and making each one feel special.
Shirley was a hard working farm wife who enjoyed gardening and often helped with everyday chores. Shirley loved baking and was known for wonderful cinnamon rolls and "Aunt Shirley biscuits". Many people have enjoyed delicious gifts from her kitchen.
Gene and Shirley loved playing cards with neighbors and friends.
Besides parents, those preceding her in death were husband, Eugene Krause in 2006; brothers, Charles Nutter of Lincoln and Russell Nutter of Thedford; infant grandson, Samuel McCulley; and Walter Nutter and Lois Gibson, half-brother and half-sister from California.
Shirley is survived by a son, Stephen Krause and friend Eileen of Ansley; two daughters, Jennifer (Ron) McCulley of Ansley and Joanne (Mike) Chartraw of Lincoln; sisters, Phyllis Figard of Thedford, and Joyce Molley and husband Duane of Denver; sisters-in-law, Wanda Mackley and husband Leonard of Thedford, Coyla Nutter of Scottsbluff, Lois Bennett of Bassett; and brother-in-law, Wayne Krause and wife Charlene of Longview Wash.
She is also survived by grandchildren Scott (Tawnia) Krause of Kearney, Tim Krause and fiance Kisha and son Kale of Ansley, Tina (Dave) Barger of Kearney, Mallory Chartraw of Lincoln, Kevin McCulley of Lincoln, Troy McCulley of Kearney and Nolan McCulley of Dodge City, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Madisyn, Carter and Kennady Krause, Legacy Chartraw, Jaxon and Hailey Barger and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Ansley Fire and Rescue Unit.
