Area teams bring home four gold medal winners

Four area athletes were crowned as gold medal champions at the NSAA High School Track and Field Championships Saturday at Omaha Burke Stadium. Ansley’s Siera Rohde and Mullen’s Gabe Connealy successfully defended their champion status as they became back-to-back champions in their respective events. Rohde became a two-time champion in the Class D 400 meter dash while Gabe Connealy became a two-time champion in the Class D discus. Connealy through for a winning distance of 179 feet-6 inches. Connealy also came very close to the all-class medal but scratched on a toss the exceeded 180 plus feet. The all-class champion from Hastings threw for a distance of 181 feet-10 inches. Also bring home gold medals were the Sargent boys 4x100 meter relay team. Jed Fenske, Guy Fenske, Ridge Horky and Tyke Kozeal completed a clean run with each exchange near perfection. The teams goal was to win the gold medal after placing in second in the event in 2010. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller’s Dillan Line became the Mustangs second straight gold medalist in the Class D 110 meter hurdles. In 2010, Line’s former teammate and friend, Dylan Smith was crowned the state champion for the Mustangs. Line was one of four area participants in the finals field of eight. Ansley: Chelsea Entz - 2nd in triple jump; Katie Drake - 4th in 300 meter hurdles; Ryan Hircock - 2nd in discus and 7th in shot put; Ansley Girls - 4th in the 4x100 relay and 3rd in the 4x400 relay. Mullen: Bryan Gray - 7th in 110 meter hurdles; Mullen Boys - 7th in the 4x800 relay; Mullen Boys - 8th in the 4x400 relay Sargent: Kirby Pomplun - 3rd in pole vault; Jed Fenske - 5th in pole vault; Tyke Kozeal - 5th in 110 meter hurdles; Rebecca Davenport - 5th in long jump; David Vincent - 7th in 1600 meter run and 8th in 3200 meter run; Guy Fenske - 8th in 400 meter dash SEM: Sara Simmons - 2nd in 100 meter hurdles and 6th in long jump; Dillan Line - 6th in 300 meter hurdles; Lance English - 8th in 110 meter hurdles.
