John Land, 62

John Charles Land, 62, of Gwinn, Mich., passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 8, at his home in the presence of his loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Johnny was born July 4, 1950, in Broken Bow, a son of the late Charles James and Mabel Lenora (Booth) Land. Johnny enjoyed participating in Special Olympics, winning several gold medals in bowling. He loved making ceramic objects in the workshop at Broken Bow, which all of his family treasure. He absolutely loved playing Bingo and occasional trip to the casino. Johnny treasured his huge collection of white Christmas bears. He loved eating at Bonanza while out on shopping trips. Johnny is survived by one sister, Barbara (James) Campbell of Gwinn, Mich.; nieces and nephews, Seth (Cortney) Sherman, Chad (Paula) Sherman, Jennifer Thiel, Heather Berg, and Len (Mike) McKeen; 17 additional nieces and nephews; 37 great nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Land of Callaway, and Jan (Land) Vanderheiden of Hernando, Fla.; one aunt, Ruby Booth of Broken Bow. Preceding him in death besides his parents were siblings, George Land, Bud Land, Ruth Applegarth, and Marie Budenbender. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. John Boyle officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Broken Bow, with a visitation in Broken Bow Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Pallbearers will be Seth and Chad Sherman, Michael and Austin McKeen, Colbey Morris and Peter Storti. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W.
