Ross Roberts, 78

Ross Roberts, age 78 of Oconto, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Oconto Community Building in Oconto with R.P. Smith officiating. Burial was in the Oconto Cemetery with military honors. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Oconto Fire and Rescue.Ross William Roberts, son and youngest of five children of Henry and Zula (Weston) Roberts, was born Jan. 16, 1934, at their home near Oconto. Ross graduated from Oconto High School in 1951. Ross served in the United States Army where he spent 16 months in Korea. Ross was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Middleton Sept. 11, 1960, at First Methodist Church in Arnold. No children were born to this union but thought of nephews and nieces as theirs.The couple lived 38 and a half years in Lower Lodi Community in Custer County. February 14, 1999, they moved into a home on the outskirts of Oconto. Ross resided here until he entered the Good Samaritan Hospital Oct. 30, and passed away Nov. 2, 2012 from Cancer.Ross enjoyed cowboying as he loved his horse, animals and peacefulness of riding pastures and rodeos.September 2011, Ross and Joyce were presented an airplane trip to Arizona by a nephew, Vince and family, to visit his brother Les who he hadn't seen for 32 years. Ross enjoyed visiting friends and relatives and never met a stranger.Ross is survived by his wife, Joyce of Oconto; brother, Les (Joanee) Roberts of Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Millie Roberts of Little Rock, Ark., and Maxine Wonch of Ansley; two brothers-in-law, Charles Clouse of Arnold and Duane (Jan) Middleton of Elizabethtown, Kent., and many nephews and nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Klabunde; two brothers, Lloyd and Allen Roberts; two sisters-in-law, Delores Clouse and Neva Roberts; two brothers-in-law, Charles Klabunde and Donivan Wonch.Published in Custer County Chief, Nov. 8, 2012
